Alison Kirkham, Commissioning Editor for Formats & Features on BBC Two, announced today A Question Of Taste a new quiz show for “foodies” presented by Kirsty Wark, who is currently appearing on Celebrity Masterchef. Kirsty Wark says: “This is going to be a real joy for me as I am crazy about cooking, and pitting enthusiastic cooks against each other and the audience at home with questions about ingredients, foodie facts, famous chefs and using archive from some kitchen greats – will I hope, be a very tasty dish.”

At 9pm, Sky1 won the slot with the debut of new documentary Inside Gatwick. The series, made by Silver River, took off with 488,800 (2.1%).
The doc, about an £800m overhaul of the London airport, was comfortably above Sky1’s year-to-date slot average of 180,800 (0.75%).

Silver River is producing Channel 4’s first primetime AFP series – an ambitious multiplatform project that will attempt to tap into the British public’s latent talents. The 6 x 60-min HIDDEN TALENT will be presented by Radio 5 Live’s Richard Bacon. C4 commissioning editor Tanya Shaw said: “This cross-platform commission presents an exciting opportunity not only for the individuals featured in the series but also for the audience at home, who can take part in a series of specially designed interactive tests on the show’s website to uncover their own hidden potential.” Silver River chief executive and executive producer Daisy Goodwin said: “We are finding people with amazing aptitudes they knew nothing about – one person said it was like discovering a superpower”.

Dr Lucy Worsley, who’s chief curator of Historic Royal Palaces, is brilliant. She isn’t shy. She tries out an 18th-century secret standing-up under-the-dress scoop-shaped chamber pot (“No one knows what I’m doing!”). She gets a man called Brian to pee into a jug, because urine was used as a stain remover for the laundry (“Go forth and do your duty!”). And it’s as infectious as the plague. They washed in bathhouses, and pooed from a great height into the river. And then they wiped their bottoms on bundles of straw called arse wisp.
