638 Ways to Kill Castro

638 Ways to Kill Castro1 x 90′ Channel 4

This is the story of smoking guns and smoking cigars they never told you about.  It’s a potted history of the relationship between the USA and Cuba told through the narrative of the countless attempts to kill Fidel Castro. The assassination plots are recounted by the men who were there: the men who tried to kill Castro and the men who thwarted their efforts. Many of the plotters are old men like Castro. In the1950s they had been his contemporaries at school and University. Now,  unlike Castro, they live comfortably in America with the protection of the United States. This is also not a film about Castro, nor is it just a lesson from Cold War history. It is a chronicle of America’s 50 year obsession with killing him. It is a thought provoking and mischievous essay that says as much about America today as it does about the past.
