In a one-hour special to be broadcast in the run-up to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding Giles Coren and Sue Perkins will take on the role of wedding planners to the happy couple, looking back over 500 years of royal marriages to discover the lessons they might learn from their royal forebears. Giles and Sue will revisit weddings both happy and disastrous, from Henry VIII’s frequent trips up the aisles, through Queen Victoria’s trend-setting white wedding, right up to the ill fated marriage of William’s parents Charles and Diana. Working their way through every step in the wedding planning process from popping the question to cutting the cake they’ll uncover the stories behind everything from the ring to the dress; the vows to the photo opportunities and learn why royal weddings have become such a national obsession. Highly entertaining and packed with fascinating historical facts Giles and Sue’s Royal Wedding will provide the ideal preparation for the big day.
