The Brick in the Wall Kids

1 x 60′ BBC 1

Pink Floyd –The Wall It’s nearly 30 years since Pink Floyd recorded their number one hit The Wall. This is the story of the 13 comprehensive school kids who bunked off classes for the afternoon and recorded the anthem “We don’t need no education”. Those kids are now grown up with children of their own, but this film catches up with them at a school reunion and discovers what happened to their lives. Did they need an education and did they get one? How did their school days shape their lives?

In 1979 they were pupils at Islington Green, a school in the vanguard of the comprehensive experiment, mixing children from different social classes. The headmistress was appalled at the song’s lyrics and banned the children who took part from doing TV and press interviews. But it was too late, they had already made an indelible contribution to what became an iconic rock song. Their music teacher, who gave them permission to make the recording, gives his side of the story and Pink Floyd’s lead songwriter Roger Waters gives a rare interview to explain the lyrics and sing the anthem one more time.
