BBC2’s food show Supersizers returned stronger than ever last night with 2.5m viewers (11.4% share), the show’s largest ever audience. The Supersizers Eat… the Eighties, which saw presenters Giles Coren and Sue Perkins sample the culinary delights from the 1980s, was up on the channel’s slot average for the year of 1.5m (6.4%) so far by one million. In 2008 the channel averaged 2.1m (9.1%). The show only just outperformed the show’s previous highest audience for The Supersizers Go… Seventies of just under 2.5m (11.8%) by 47,000. Last year’s six-part run which began on 20 May averaged 1.8m (7.9%) with only the show on the 1970s getting over 2 million. Neither Five nor Channel 4 could put up particularly tough competition at the time.
